Sonoita, Arizona’s Apache Springs Ranch is a beautiful event center in the high-desert area of the Santa Rita Mountains. Located deep inside the Coronado National Forest, Apache Springs Ranch is host to a number of equestrian clinics, creative and executive retreats, wilderness workshops, and weddings. 

Designed for multi-day functions, the facility has a variety of accommodations and amenities for both horse and human guests. Guests can enjoy their stay in a ranch house, casita, or cabin while their horse is safely tucked away in the venue’s barn. Horses can be worked in a traditional riding arena or round pen, or enjoy turnout time in the ranch’s pastures. 

Guests visiting for company retreats have access to a conference center, a labyrinth for team building activities, and cook out areas. The conference center is optimized for corporate meetings while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere. 

More adventurous guests can journey onto the ranch’s hiking trails to explore a nearby canyon, or head out to hike Mount Wrightson, which is the tallest peak in the Santa Rita’s. 

Custom Rustic Logo Design Created for Arizona Wilderness Retreat

Apache Springs Ranch is located in an area with rich Native American history. There has been evidence of pre-historic humans called the Anasazi (Apache for “ancestral enemies”) occupying the ranch and surrounding areas. The discovery of ancient pottery and weapons in caves near the ranch suggest that the area has been inhabited by humans for a number of years. 

The Apache people that populated the area in the 1600-1800’s were considered to be “horse warriors.” This is in part due to the large amount of domesticated horses that the Spanish people accidentally released into the wild during raids and such. However, unlike the Comanche, who were skilled horsemen and always rode horses in battle, the Apache would often utilize their natural surroundings to protect themselves. 

Tom Gardner founded the Apache Springs Ranch in 1872, where he bred racehorses and raised beef cattle that he sold to local mines and forts as a meat supply. His response to why he chose to live in such an untamed land is said to have been, “Well you see, there was lively mining, then there was lively horse racing, and lively fighting-everything was lively.”

Our artists’ goal for Apache Springs Ranch’s custom logo was to create a modern rustic logo design with inspiration from the rich history of the ranch and the surrounding wilderness. We used a hand lettered custom typography for the word “Apache” in the business name, along with a modern sans serif font for the word “Springs.” The “A” in “Apache” is designed in the likeness of a teepee, establishing a unique Native American aesthetic within the original logo. The “H” in the world also looks subtly like a warrior’s arrow. The teepee inspired letter “A” can be used alone as an actual cattle brand or as an addition to branded items to add a western feel. 

We accented the company name with a sketch of a winding mountain stream. Incorporating a teal and copper gradient enhanced the Native American aesthetic of this hand drawn rustic logo design while also imparting a feeling of peace and tranquility.
